On May 23, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) announced and congratulated the 2023 Service Academy Appointments from the 41st Congressional District. As a Member of Congress, Rep. Calvert has the privilege of nominating a select group of highly qualified young men and women for admission to the United States Service Academies – Army, Navy, and Air Force.

“I want to congratulate the outstanding students who have been appointed to attend our service academies,” said Rep. Calvert. “Nominating extraordinary students from our region to attend the academies is one of the highest honors I’m afforded as a U.S. Representative. In addition to the students, I want to thank their families, friends, teachers, and everyone who supported them. Our volunteer military is shaped by selfless citizens stepping forward to serve, and I’m humbled by the leadership demonstrated by these students at such a young age.”

The following is a list of the candidates nominated by Rep. Calvert who have also received and accepted an Offer of Appointment to our nation's service academies, and will be part of the Class of 2027 entering in June 2023:

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Joshua Brown – Vista Murrieta High School

Dylan Shifflet – Northwestern Preparatory School

Grant Wayne – Vista Murrieta High School

Carter Wentworth – Santiago High School

Makai Yee – Northwestern Preparatory School

UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY AT WEST POINT

Lelaini Abalos – Vista Murrieta High School

Elyor Muhammadiyez – Vista Murrieta High School

Chase Ruffing – Great Oak High School

UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY

Steen Harris-Pham – John W. North High School

Erica Norrid – Murrieta Mesa High School

Luke Rogers – Arlington High School

Justin Wells – Lakeside High School

Each appointee to the Armed Service Academies will receive an education valued in excess of $400,000. Rep. Calvert's appointments to the Armed Service Academies are awarded on a strictly competitive basis through a Congressional Nominations Selection Committee. The Committee evaluates each candidate and makes recommendations. The 2023 Service Academy Appointment process had a deadline in the fall of 2022, therefore only students residing in the previous 42nd Congressional District were eligible to receive a nomination. Students in the new 41st Congressional District will be eligible to receive a nomination for 2024 Service Academy Appointments.
