On May 16, Congressman Ken Calvert (CA-41) issued the following statement after the House Appropriations Committee released the Fiscal Year 2024 bill that fully funds the Department of Veterans Affairs:
“Upholding our commitment to those who served and sacrificed for our country is one my top priorities in Congress. That’s why I have said repeatedly that we can, and we must fully fund the VA and our veterans’ programs. Despite the onslaught of lies coming from the White House and Democrats in Congress, today Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee released a bill that delivers on the promises made to our veterans. Those who served our country will be pleased to learn the bill includes a $18 billion funding increase for the VA over last year’s funding level – not the funding cut Democrats have been lying about for weeks. We should never play politics with our veterans’ programs. House Republicans are demonstrating that addressing our fiscal crisis and protecting our veterans are not mutually exclusive goals.”
