CITY OF NORCO: Enforces Prohibition of Fireworks for Upcoming Holidays

Dogfireworks

City of Norco issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

The City of Norco, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department will deploy extra code enforcement, Sheriff Deputies, and Fire Officers over the upcoming holidays to prevent and cite the illegal use of fireworks and firearms in the community. The City of Norco has a zero tolerance policy regarding the possession or use of illegal fireworks.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Norco Municipal Code, violators of the fireworks prohibition are subject to fines of up to $2,000 per citation, plus any costs associated with fire suppression. The property owner can be cited regardless of whether they are the individual who lit the firework or not. Violators may also face criminal prosecution. In addition to fireworks, illegally firing guns into the air is a felony and violators will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Citizens may not purchase, sell, transport, use, or store illegal fireworks in the City and all of Western Riverside County. Due to Norco’s large lot sizes and open space, fireworks create a greater risk of fire hazards. In addition, fireworks and stray bullets have the potential to injure and kill innocent bystanders, can trigger post-traumatic stress symptoms and can scare animals.

Protecting the safety of residents and their animals is a top priority for the City of Norco, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department. To report illegal fireworks activity or firearm discharge, please contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 776-1099. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, please dial 9-1-1.

For more information, contact the City of Norco at (951) 270-5623 or info@ci.norco.ca.us.

ANIMAL-RELATED EMERGENCIES:
