Assemblyman Bill Essayli has formally requested Governor Gavin Newsom to convene a Special Legislative Session on wildfires. The request comes amid ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
"California is suffering an unmitigated wildfire disaster because we have a Governor who is more interested in ‘Trump-Proofing’ California instead of fireproofing our state," Assemblyman Essayli stated. He criticized the state's current condition, describing it as akin to a "third world-country" when faced with preventable wildfires. Essayli attributed the loss of life and property in Los Angeles to what he called "failed Democrat policies pushed by environmental extremists."
Essayli further commented on Governor Newsom's priorities, stating, "Governor Newsom has one job: protect Californian citizens, and he has failed again with the 8th wildfire under his watch." He urged the governor to focus on fire prevention rather than political goals. Essayli proposed that a Special Legislative Session should address funding for firefighting efforts, policy changes for fire mitigation like controlled burns and underground power lines, and the fire insurance crisis affecting Californians.
