Amazon Fresh and Grubhub collaborated to host a "Christmas in the Wards" event at the North Riverside Amazon Fresh store. The event, held on December 18, provided support to 100 families with groceries, gift cards, and surprise gifts for local students.

According to CBS, the event welcomed 100 families from the community, each receiving $150 worth of groceries. Grubhub contributed by providing every family with a matching $150 gift card to further ease holiday expenses.

"The holiday season is about more than just giving—it's about coming together," Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a post on X regarding Christmas in the Wards. "Every year, Christmas in the Wards brings our community closer, bridging gaps and spreading joy where it's needed most. From gifts to meals, every act of kindness makes a lasting impact on families across the city. This is how we show up, make a difference, and lift each other up."

According to About Amazon, Amazon has redesigned its Fresh grocery stores in Chicago with an emphasis on affordability, convenience, and expanded product selection. The 2023 redesign includes offerings of fresh produce, meats, bakery items, and a broader range of prepared meals.

Christmas in the Wards was established in 1996 by businessman Larry Huggins. Originally known as the Christmas in Englewood Foundation, it began as a grassroots initiative that raised $7,000. It evolved through a partnership with Everett Rand, CEO of Midway Wholesalers, and gained support from political and business leaders. The organization transitioned into a nonprofit in 2011 to broaden its mission to support families across Chicago.
