City of Moreno Valley issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.
As part of the Mayor and City Council's continuing commitment and effort to expand internet access to more residents, the City of Moreno Valley is partnering with Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) by providing City parks as locations to host the school district's WiFi Buses.
The WiFi-equipped school buses are intended to bring internet access to students in lower-income neighborhoods. Among the 17 WiFi Bus locations are John F. Kennedy Veterans Memorial Park, Celebration Park and Gateway Park.
"We are excited to work with our school district partners to support student academic achievement," said Dr. Yxstian Gutierrez, Mayor of Moreno Valley and an educator by profession. "Hosting MVUSD's innovative WiFi Buses is yet another way we are expanding internet access across our community."
Earlier this year, the City launched its new Computer Learning & Internet Connectivity or "CLiC" initiative, which includes new public hotspots called WiFi Gardens at many City facilities. The Mayor and City Council authorized purchase of an additional 100 (for a total of 150) mobile hotspots that can be checked out of the City's three library branches. And CLiC also features a comprehensive internet portal designed to help technology beginners get low-cost access to computers and the internet and learn how to use them.
