On January 1, 2026, deputies at the Robert Presley Detention Center discovered an unresponsive male inmate in a housing unit cell. The inmate was identified as 19-year-old Ezekiel Cuenca-Torres of Riverside.
Corrections staff and jail medical personnel began lifesaving efforts, which were supported by paramedics who responded to the scene. Despite these attempts, Cuenca-Torres could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the facility.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Central Investigations Bureau and the Coroner’s Bureau have taken over the investigation. According to authorities, there were no signs of foul play and the incident appears to be a suicide. The family of Cuenca-Torres has been notified.
