Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station will conduct a DUI saturation patrol between Friday and Saturday, January 2-3. The operation will run from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., focusing on identifying drivers suspected of being under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” Sergeant Rafael Lopez said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription and over-the-counter medications. Residents are advised to follow medication directions and pay attention to warning labels regarding driving. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana use is legal in California, it remains illegal to drive while under its influence.
Those arrested for a first-time DUI offense may face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as license suspension.
Funding for this enforcement effort comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
