Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station will conduct a DUI saturation patrol from Friday to Saturday, December 26-27. The operation will run between 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m., focusing on identifying drivers suspected of being under the influence.
Sergeant Rafael Lopez emphasized the importance of responsible choices when it comes to impaired driving. “Impaired driving is preventable,” Lopez said. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The department noted that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. They advised motorists to follow usage directions and pay attention to warning labels regarding driving. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving while under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
First-time offenders caught driving impaired face an average cost of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.
The program is funded through a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
