The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 2 that it will conduct driving under the influence (DUI) patrols in Eastvale, California, on April 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

The operation aims to deter impaired driving and promote public safety by identifying drivers suspected of being under the influence. According to Deputy Armenta, “Impaired driving is preventable. It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

Officials remind residents that impairment is not limited to alcohol; certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also affect driving ability. The department advises individuals to read warning labels and follow usage directions before getting behind the wheel. Although medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, authorities stress that driving while under its influence remains illegal.

First-time offenders charged with DUI may face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties as well as license suspension. Funding for this enforcement program comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
