On February 6, 2026, deputies from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station responded to a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and San Jacinto Avenue in San Jacinto. According to authorities, upon arrival, deputies learned that one of the drivers had fled the scene on foot.
Deputies searched the area and found a suspect in the 2000 block of San Jacinto Avenue. Law enforcement officials stated that when deputies attempted to take the individual into custody, he did not comply with their commands and produced a firearm. This led to a deputy-involved shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire. Deputies provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the suspect has not been released. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Department policy requires that deputies involved in shootings are placed on paid administrative leave. The names of those deputies will not be released at this time. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Force Investigation Detail is leading an active investigation into the incident, and no further information is being provided currently.
