Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, Jurupa Valley Station will conduct a DUI saturation patrol in Jurupa Valley on Friday and Saturday, January 16–17. The operation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., focusing on identifying drivers suspected of driving under the influence.
“Impaired driving is preventable,” said Sergeant Rafael Lopez. “It’s a choice. If you’ve been drinking or taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”
The sheriff’s office emphasized that impairment can result not only from alcohol but also from certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. Drivers are advised to follow usage directions and read warning labels regarding driving. While both medicinal and recreational marijuana use are legal in California, operating a vehicle under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
Individuals charged with their first DUI offense may face an average cost of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with license suspension.
Funding for this enforcement effort was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
