Riverside County inmate dies at Larry Smith Correctional Facility; investigation ongoing

A 46-year-old Black male died while in custody at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California, on December 29, 2025. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office held custodial responsibility for the individual at the time of his death.

According to information released by the Riverside County Coroner, the man was booked and housed in Unit 16, Day Room D of the facility when he died. The official manner and cause of death are currently pending further investigation.

The incident remains under review as authorities work to determine additional details surrounding the circumstances of his death.
