Pomona man dies after incident on Interstate 215 in Riverside

A 66-year-old man from Pomona, California, died early Friday morning following an incident on southbound Interstate 215, about half a mile south of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Riverside. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Phillip Macias.

According to officials, the injury occurred at approximately 5:06 a.m. on February 27, 2026. Macias was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:22 a.m. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Authorities have notified next of kin. All further inquiries regarding this case are being directed to the investigating agency.
