Palm Desert deputies investigate fatal single-car collision on Fred Waring Drive

On January 16, 2026, at approximately 10:20 a.m., deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision near Fred Waring Drive and Cook Street in Palm Desert. Upon arrival, deputies found a vehicle with significant damage. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Traffic Reconstruction Team from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station took over the investigation. Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased individual, as they are waiting to notify next of kin. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it has not been determined if alcohol or drugs played a role.

Sergeant Emil Stan stated that “the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.”
