Mark Takano, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, posted several statements on his Twitter account addressing recent political developments and personal reflections.
On January 3, 2026, Takano criticized former President Donald Trump’s foreign policy actions, stating: “President Trump is once again acting like a king. He just overthrew the Venezuelan government, dragging us into yet another foreign intervention without Congress’s approval. Republicans need to grow a spine and join us in demanding oversight and checking this imperial president.”
Three days later, on January 6, 2026, Takano commented on the anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol: “Donald Trump incited this attack on democracy 5 years ago, and has pardoned those who assaulted the Capitol. I remember this day well, but at the end of the day our country stood on the side of law, the will of the people, and the democratic system.”
Also on January 6, Takano shared a personal memory about a colleague named Doug: “We were both elected in 2012 and shared a friendly relationship. A rice farmer, Doug delighted in my suggestion that he meet with the North American Sake Brewers Association. ‘Anything to sell more American-grown rice!'”
Takano was born in Riverside, California in 1960 and continues to reside there. He graduated from Harvard University with a BA in 1983.
