Mark Takano, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 39th district since 2013, has been vocal on social media about various political issues. Born in Riverside, California in 1960 and a Harvard University graduate, Takano continues to express his concerns regarding policies affecting educational institutions and immigration enforcement.

On June 5, 2025, Takano tweeted about a conversation with Secretary McMahon regarding “viewpoint diversity” in college faculty hiring. He stated, “I asked Secretary McMahon to define what ‘viewpoint diversity’ in college faculty hiring means. I was stunned by the response I received. Extreme, dangerous, and ill-conceived polices will destroy trust and credibility in universities.”

In another tweet dated June 7, 2025, Takano addressed an incident involving David Huerta and ICE. He wrote that “David Huerta showed up to watch, to ensure accountability. For that, ICE detained him. That’s not enforcing the law or protecting people. That’s intimidating those who dare question the Trump Administration’s policies.” He emphasized solidarity with Huerta by stating, “We cannot and will not stay quiet.”

Continuing his critique of the Trump administration’s actions on June 8, 2025, Takano asserted that “Trump is provoking chaos to justify an illegal and violent crackdown. He wants to expand his own power, but we will not let this wanna-be dictator win.” He called for resilience against what he described as a “naked power grab,” urging others to uphold rights.

Mark Takano has served as a congressman since replacing Jerry Lewis in 2013.
