Mark Takano, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, posted a series of statements on February 3, 2026, criticizing the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and calling for reforms and accountability.
In his first post at 17:46 UTC, Takano wrote: “Today, my Democratic colleagues and I stood in protest at ICE headquarters, outraged by the nearly 50 people killed at the hands of their agents. Reform and accountability NOW.”
Later that day at 19:19 UTC, he added: “ICE and DHS agents are stomping on the rights of Americans while covering their faces, with zero repercussions for their actions. Accountability and impeachment must happen if we want our communities, families, and country to be safe.”
By 22:06 UTC on the same day, Takano reiterated his stance with another post stating: “People have been killed by ICE. No accountability, no funding.”
These statements come amid ongoing debates about immigration enforcement practices in the United States. Calls for reform within ICE have intensified in recent years as lawmakers scrutinize agency operations following reports of fatalities involving detainees.
Takano has represented California’s 39th District since replacing Jerry Lewis in Congress in 2013. Born in Riverside, California in 1960, he continues to reside there today. He graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983.
