Mark Takano, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, addressed issues related to transgender rights and consumer protection in a series of social media posts published on January 13 and 14, 2026.
On January 13, Takano wrote, “It is our responsibility as Americans to acknowledge the basic fact: that trans people exist and matter. @EqualityCaucus https://t.co/MkEZ3pBMFd”. The following day, he commented on actions by Secretary McMahon and the Department of Education, stating on January 14, “Secretary McMahon has used the Department of Education to discriminate against trans students. While we were both speaking in front of the Supreme Court, I told her yet again to stop these attacks and to restore the Department. @EqualityCaucus https://t.co/GdUxtetKz9”.
In another post from January 14 focused on consumer protection legislation, Takano said, “For years, big corporations have been entrapping and ripping off American consumers with less than truthful subscription schemes. I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation to put more money back in Americans’ pockets. https://t.co/gO1z1HOq3R”.
