Mark Takano, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, posted several statements on his social media accounts in October 2025 addressing recent national and international events.
On October 7, 2025, Takano reflected on the anniversary of the Hamas attack in Israel: “Two years have passed since October 7th. We grieve for the 1,200 innocent lives lost on that horrific day to Hamas’s brutality and share the anguish of the 48 hostages who remain in captivity. The violence still reverberates across Israel and Jewish communities worldwide. But two”. The post referenced ongoing impacts of the conflict on Jewish communities internationally.
Two days later, on October 9, Takano criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to federal law enforcement agencies: “Donald Trump is using the federal government like his personal goon squad. It undermines the hardworking career prosecutors at DOJ going after dangerous criminals and is an outright assault on our rights as Americans.” He alleged misuse of governmental power and voiced concerns about threats to American rights.
On October 10, Takano commented on health care policy and government funding: “Donald Trump and Republicans cut Medicaid and targeted Medicare so they could give tax breaks to their billionaire donors. Now they have shut down the government rather than act to stop massive premium hikes on millions of Americans.” The statement highlighted ongoing disputes over healthcare funding and recent government shutdowns.
Takano has served as a congressional representative for California’s 39th District since replacing Jerry Lewis in 2013. Born in Riverside, California in 1960, he continues to reside there. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University in 1983.
