Mark Takano, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, addressed several issues in a series of social media posts between October 13 and October 15, 2025. Takano, who was born in Riverside, California in 1960 and is a Harvard University graduate, used his platform to comment on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, developments in the Middle East, and a congressional dispute.
On October 13, Takano posted about Indigenous Peoples’ Day, stating: “On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the history, culture, and enduring contributions of Indigenous Americans. We also look ahead, recommitting ourselves to building a more just world—one where their stories are heard and their rights fully upheld.”
The following day, Takano addressed the situation in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages: “After two long and painful years, Israeli hostages have finally been reunited with their families, and the guns in Gaza have fallen silent. This war has taken the lives of tens of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. Now is the time to deliver a massive surge of” (October 14).
On October 15, Takano commented on a congressional matter involving Adelita Grijalva: “I joined my colleagues in demanding that Adelita Grijalva be sworn in. Speaker Johnson is scared of her vote to release the Epstein files and is denying her constituents representation in Congress. Swear her in.”
Takano’s remarks reflect ongoing national conversations about Indigenous rights, international conflict resolution, and transparency within Congress. As a longtime representative from Riverside who succeeded Jerry Lewis in Congress, Takano continues to use his position to address both local and global issues.
