Mark Takano, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 39th district since 2013, posted a series of statements on social media addressing topics ranging from the passing of a colleague to legislative initiatives and foreign policy concerns.
On January 6, 2026, Takano commented on the death of fellow Congressman Doug LaMalfa. In his message, he stated: “Doug LaMalfa’s passing comes as a great shock. I extend my condolences to his family and constituents. We disagreed on much but found common ground promoting California agriculture and taking care of wildfire victims.”
The following day, January 7, 2026, Takano expressed concerns regarding U.S. policy toward Venezuela after attending a classified briefing. He wrote: “Today’s classified briefing showed that the Trump Administration cannot answer basic questions about what comes next in Venezuela. Dragging our country into a war of conquest instead of focusing on the needs of Americans is senseless. Congress must assert itself.”
On January 8, 2026, Takano highlighted ongoing legislative efforts to address housing issues by referencing existing legislation. He stated: “The bill to do this already exists: the Stop Wall Street Landlords Act. I’m proud to co-lead it with @RepRoKhanna”
Takano was born in Riverside, California in 1960 and continues to reside there at age 62. He graduated from Harvard University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
