Law enforcement agencies conduct joint traffic safety operation in east Riverside County

On January 15, 2026, law enforcement agencies in Riverside County conducted a coordinated traffic safety enforcement operation as part of the ongoing Valley Motor Enforcement Team (VMET) initiative. The operation took place from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and involved officers from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Palm Desert and Thermal Stations, along with police departments from Beaumont, Banning, Cathedral City, Palm Springs, and Indio.

The collaborative effort aims to reduce fatal and non-fatal traffic collisions through targeted enforcement and public education. During this particular operation, 22 officers were deployed across three cities served by the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station.

In Palm Desert, officers issued 123 citations and towed three vehicles. In Indian Wells, there were 67 citations issued with one vehicle towed. Rancho Mirage saw 66 citations issued without any vehicles being towed.

According to the release, these traffic safety operations will continue on a rotating monthly basis throughout East County.
