Indio man dies after incident on railroad tracks

A 29-year-old man from Indio, California, identified as Noel Tapia, died on February 1, 2026. According to information released by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau, Tapia sustained injuries at approximately 7:39 p.m. on railroad tracks located on Indio Boulevard, about 250 feet east of Hoover Street in Indio.

Tapia was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center at 1150 N. Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced dead at 9:58 p.m. The coroner’s office confirmed that next of kin have been notified.

The incident is being investigated by the Indio Police Department under investigation number 2602I-0098. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has directed all inquiries regarding this case to the investigating agency.
