Today, the House Natural Resources Committee gave its approval to the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program Amendment Act, known as H.R.831. This bipartisan legislation was introduced earlier this year by Congressman Ken Calvert of California’s 41st District. The bill aims to support activities under the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program (LCR MSCP) by creating an interest-bearing account at the Department of Treasury. This account will hold funds contributed by Arizona, California, and Nevada for the program.

“As this bill continues to advance, we are closer to expanding the resources available for the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program,” stated Rep. Calvert. “I am thankful for the support of my House colleagues on the Natural Resource Committee for passing this common-sense step allowing excess funds in the LCR MSCP to earn interest and maintain their effectiveness.”

House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman from Arkansas’ 4th District added, “Congressman Calvert is known for legislative solutions that are forward thinking and save taxpayer dollars. His work on the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program is just one example of this and will ensure the program is run responsibly while generating millions in new annual revenue. I’d like to thank him for his leadership on this bill, and I look forward to working with him to help move it through the legislative process.”
